The McGMO was established in 1997 by Tim McGregor, Mike Grover, John Monroe, and Kim O’Keefe. Each individual had been touched by cancer in a direct way. Tim, Mike, and John lost their fathers (Dean McGregor, Ivan Grover, and Calvin Monroe) to cancer within a six month period, and Kim was battling cancer himself. Friends since high school in Delavan, they did more than turn to each other for support. They decided to raise money to help others fighting cancer.
They agreed upon a golf outing that would directly benefit the local hospital. The only stipulation for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center was to have the funds applied toward comfort items for patients.
Each year Beacon participates in this special function to help raise awareness and support this important cause.
